Walking Stick - handle detail

The rings, collar and tip of this walking stick are solid brass, sourced from a specialty walking stick and cane company.

Walking Stick - detail of hand-carved handle

The handle of this walking stick was hand-carved out of black walnut, and polished to be comfortable to hold, with the handle made to represent an eagle’s beak. It’s finished with the same clear and natural stain as the shaft, a combination of beeswax and linseed oil.

Did you know that a walking stick became an essential part of the European gentleman's wardrobe around the 17th or 18th century? Walking Stick - detail showing the mahogany wood grain in the shaft

This walking stick shaft is mahogany wood that has been naturally ebonized.  The result is a finish that looks black at a distance, but comes to life up close, allowing the rich red, brown and copper-coloured undertones to show through. If you hold it up to the sunlight on a bright day, the wood sparkles.
